A short history of honey

Appreciated since the dawn of time, as bees appeared on earth well before us humans, honey has been consumed since earliest antiquity. It has long served as a sweetener as well as being used for its curative virtues. The Egyptians used it for embalming their dead and to enhance the skin. In more recent times, it was used as a healing balm to treat soldiers’ injuries during the last two world wars…Harvested firstly from tree trunks naturally inhabited by bees, man slowly provided them with a habitat in order to ensure a more regular production. In France, in the last century, the hives were still made of straw and it was only in the 19th century that hives with removable frames as we know them appeared.
