Aups, capitale du Haut Var

Situated at an altitude of 505 metres at the foothills of the Alps, Aups (Zaou in Provencal) is 60 km from the sea and 80 km from the ski slopes. Its healthful climate, dry and temperate, makes it an ideal destination for a relaxing village break.

Part of the Verdon Regional Natural Park, the village of Aups is the southern gateway to the Verdon Gorges, a site renowned across the world for its picturesque landscapes and for the numerous sports activities on offer (climbing, white water sports, nature walks, canyoning, gliding, etc.)

Aups and its surrounding area are also renowned for their culinary specialities the most illustrious being wine, honey, olive oil and of course the black truffle. The village’s winter truffle market is one of the biggest in France.

Holding a licence to trade since the Middle Ages, Aups is also home to two traditional markets, on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings as well as nocturnal markets held under the plane trees of the Place de la Mairie.

The administrative centre of the canton, comprising 2147 inhabitants, Aups, which is a designated "village of character", offers you all the advantages of an ancient village with a resolutely modern outlook, boasting full amenities and a preserved architecture and heritage.
